How to Lay Bermuda Sod | Landscape Improvements

Are you planning to lay Bermuda sod on your lawn but have no idea how to lay Bermuda sod? Worry no more! This blog will point out easy steps on installing Bermuda sod on your lawn.

Installing Bermuda sod on your lawn increases your yard’s curb appeal. It also adds to the aesthetic value of your entire home. Bermuda sod gives elegance to your lawn as it creates a lush green environment. Installing Bermuda sod is an easy and effective way to have a beautiful lawn instantly.

Laying Bermuda sod on your own is a lot easier than you think. You just have to familiarize yourself with the tools and steps on installing it. Here are the steps on how to lay Bermuda sod.

Step 1: Choose the right Bermuda sod

Before anything else, identify what kind of Bermuda sod is conducive to the vegetation of your yard. Remember that soil vegetation varies in every State. You may consult a landscape specialist to help you choose the right sod for your yard.

It is not enough that you just research on the internet. You might end up selecting the wrong grass. It could lead to wasting your money, time, and effort.

Step 2: Measure the area

Identify the area where you want to lay your Bermuda sod. You can sketch your lot to help you measure the area.

Multiply the length to the width of the area where you desire to lay the sod. The product is the square feet of the sod needed.

Length x Width = Square feet

If you are unsure of your calculations, or have an irregularly shaped yard, it would be better to consult with a professional landscaper.

Step 3: Clear the area

Prepare the area where you intend to lay the Bermuda sod. Work it until you get rid of weeds, foreign objects, and excess grass. You can rake or plow the soil up to 4-6 inches deep. Remove rocks, clods, and roots.

To ensure that the soil is healthy before laying the Bermuda sod, use soil humus compost. Spread the humus on the topsoil, and flatten it for easy installation of the sod. You can also rake the topsoil.

Step 4: Purchase the right Bermuda sod

When your soil is ready, schedule the delivery of the sod immediately. Order additional Bermuda sod in case of emergencies.

Step 5: Lay the Bermuda sod

Start with the borders first. Unroll the first roll of Bermuda sod carefully to avoid damaging the grass. Avoid stepping on the sod while you are still installing it on the ground. Flatten protruding and wrinkling areas with a lawn roller. Make sure that there are no air pockets in between.

After laying the Bermuda sod on the first row, just do the same procedure on the other rows until the whole area is covered with sod. Use a knife to cut off excess sod. As a finishing touch, use the lawn roller to flatten and push the Bermuda sod firmly to the ground.

If you already know how to install bermuda sod, the next thing you want to learn is how often you should mow your lawn. Find out in our blog.
